As one of the premier cultural events on the Central Coast, guests experience a weekend of Central Coast springtime, local artisan goods, live music and dancing, and authentic mermaid creations.

Beginning the festivities will be the inaugural Cayucos Sea Glass Festival’s Mermaid Ball on Friday, March 10, 2017, 6 -10 p.m., held in the Cayucos Sea Glass Festival Tent. Enjoy an evening of whimsical, under-the-sea enchantment including live music and dancing, photo-ops with live mermaids, a silent art auction, the seafood chowder cook-off, and locally-produced wine and artisan brews. Come in costume and get the chance to be crowned the Sea Glass King & Queen, when the Sea Glass Queen will be crowned with a sea glass bejeweled tiara designed and created exclusively for this occasion by Jason of Cabana Jewelry. Tickets for the Mermaid Ball are $25 and available at Happy Go Smile, 36 N. Ocean Avenue, Cayucos-by-the Sea, or contact Barb at happygobarb@gmail.com. Additionally, wine and beer are available for purchase. The Mermaid Ball welcomes all guests 21 and over.

Guests continue to enjoy the festivities well into the weekend at the main event, the 7th Annual Cayucos Sea Glass Festival on Saturday and Sunday, March 11-12, 2017 at Cayucos Veteran’s Hall. Shop in an extensive marketplace of the finest sea glass art, curios and collectibles, as well as enjoying regional food and beverages from local wineries and breweries. To insure a quality marketplace, participating artists and vendors at the 7th Annual Cayucos Sea Glass Festival are juried.

Festival hours are 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. on Sunday, with preview hours on Saturday from 9 a.- 10 a.m. Admission is $5 per person per day and $15 per person for Saturday preview shopping. The 7th Annual Cayucos Sea Glass Festival is a family friendly event where children are welcome, and children ages 7 and under enjoy free admission. Regretfully, pets are not permitted inside the festival.

Surrounding the festival weekend, Cayucos by-the-Sea celebrates “Mermaids in March” from March 1- 31, 2017. Sea glass pieces are affectionately known as mermaid tears, making mermaids an integral part of the festival. Throughout the month of March, visitors stroll through the town of Cayucos enjoying multi-media displays of mermaids ranging from stained glass and papier-mâché mermaids, to metal and wooden mermaid sculptures. Each mermaid is created by a local business and is an individual artistic expression embodying the spirit of the 7th Annual Cayucos Sea Glass Festival.

This year’s festival sweepstake giveaway, the “Storm Watchers Getaway,” is valued at $1,000, including $750 for lodging and $250 in gift certificates and is designed to encourage guests to not only shop for their sea glass but to discover their own treasures. “Sea glass aficionados know that the best time to collect sea glass is right after a storm,” says Katie Sturtevant, Cayucos Sea Glass Festival Director, “so, this year’s prize package provides the winner tips on when and how to find their own sea glass on our beach.” The winner will be announced the day after the festival and the hotel stay is valid January-March 2018.
