Seven Angels Cellars is a family owned, boutique winery located in Templeton, CA.  We began making wine in 2009 with a small production of Petite Sirah.  Since then we have increased production to around 3000 cases per year.  Greg Martin is the owner/winemaker and Pamela Martin is the other owner and handles social media, food pairings, wine club and club events and the website.  The story behind the name came from our passion for family.  We have seven children in our blended family, our 7 angels.

We both grew up loving wine.  Greg grew up in a rural area of California with neighbors who grew wine grapes.  He spent a lot of time learning about the entire process from the vine to the bottle from his patient neighbor.  He continued his interest in wine as a US Coast Guard when he was stationed in the bay area and had easy access to the multitude of wineries in Sonoma and Napa.  Pamela comes from a family of foodies and wine enthusiasts.  She took courses in college in winemaking and learned the biology aspect of wine.  She worked in catering and on TV as a home economist for a cooking show.  Pairing food and wine to create an interesting and delightful balance in a meal has become an obsession for her.

We married in 2008 and started making wine the following year.  We specialize in Rhone blends as well as single varietals.  Greg has his eyes, hands in every aspect of the process from the field to the bottle.  Pamela has the palate and the nose and is instrumental in the blending.

We participate in many non-profit and charity events as our way of giving back.  We are involved with Precious Life Shelter in Los Alamitos, a shelter for homeless pregnant women and Goals for Life, and NFL program for troubled youth.  We are the official wine sponsor for the Congressional Cup held annually at the Long Beach Yacht Club.  We also sponsor the Wooden Boat Festival in Newport Beach each year.

Many of our wines have been recognized by Wine Enthusiast with ratings in the 90’s.  We’ve also received numerous gold medals at California and International wine competitions.  This year we were awarded a gold medal from the mid-state fair for our 2015 Pinot Noir and a gold medal from the Orange County Wine Competition for our 2015 Tempranillo.

We believe in the “less is best” approach to winemaking.  Less manipulation and more natural methods of making our wine.  Greg likes to play with using different kinds of oak in our barrel program.  Our wines are food friendly, approachable in both flavor and price point.  We’d love to share with you more about our methodology, including, why we keep our price point where it is and how we see Seven Angels integrated on an evolved, noteworthy, wine list.

We craft wines that represent a stylistic bridge between the Old and New worlds, capturing the finesse associated with European wines while celebrating the bold natural flavors of our estate vineyards in Paso Robles.

Our Paso Robles wine grapes are grown to promote intense, varietal flavors that can then be sculpted in the cellar into a final artistic statement. Meticulous winemaking practices coax the true varietal essences of the fruit forward, allowing for wines that are full-bodied, rich, and expressive. The rich, concentrated wines of Sculpterra are the result of combining exceptional fruit from the winery’s estate vineyards and select Paso Robles vineyards with meticulous hand-crafted winemaking. Gentle handling, using traditional gravity methods ensures that the integrity of the wines stay intact. Sculpterra wines are aged an average of 12 to 18 months in American, French and Hungarian oak.

The genesis of the wine story for Pear Valley began in the late 60’s when owner Tom Maas was stationed on an army base in Germany…in the midst of a vineyard. Here he learned to love both wine and the vineyard. Decades later, when the kids were grown and responsibilities waned, he was free to pursue his dream of owning and living in a vineyard. It started with 20 acres in 1999 and now Tom and Kathleen own 113 acres where they dedicate their energy and resources to providing the best environment for growing premium grapes. The vineyards are operated with sustainable farming practices to ensure that the best fruit possible will still be grown there when their grandchildren operate the farm.

The next phase of the dream began in the Spring of 2008 when they broke ground on a 14,000 winery and 5,000 square foot tasting room. Continuing the dedication to providing the best environment possible, the winery and tasting room were designed in partnership with PG&E through their “Savings By Design” program to design buildings that are energy efficient and environmentally sound.

In August 2012 Pear Valley officially achieved Sustainability in Practice (SIP) Vineyard Certification. Nestled in the heart of Edna Valley, overlooking rows of vineyards and a 40-mile stretch of the Santa Lucia mountain range is Autry Cellars. Owner and artisan winemaker Steve Autry and his tasting room staff pour wine varietals, brandy, and grappa borne from some of the best grapes selected from across the region, along with his signature apple brandy.

Autry Cellars’ informal, unpretentious tasting room is, “decorated in early American warehouse” style, jokes Autry. However, don’t be deceived by the modest décor. In this tasting room visitors can experience superb wine varietals ranging from best selling Petite Sirah to Malbec and Viognier. In addition, you can taste gold medal best-in-class grappa and silver medal winning American oak and Hungarian oak brandies, awarded by the California Mid-State Fair.

With over 18 years of winemaking experience, Autry became a commercial winemaker 10 years ago and a fully licensed brandy distiller in 2012. A visit to Autry Cellars is about discovery. We are a tiny winery located on a Westside hilltop in Paso Robles. We craft wines that are a fascinating marriage of power and elegance. We take what comes from the vineyard and keep it simple and pure. Our grapes are always encouraged to speak for themselves, and if you treat them with the utmost of care, they will always quietly reveal from where they came. We follow old-world farming and winemaking techniques and our boutique vineyard is purposely geared to produce tiny yields of highly flavoured fruit. We use minimal intervention during the winemaking process, and let the fruit expose its story within the glass.

There are only two of us, and we personally handcraft all of our wines in extremely small lots. Production is low in quantity, and large on quality. Wine is our artistry; one of our greatest creative pleasures.
