August Ridge was established by John Backer and Jill Zamborelli Backer in the spring of 2001 with the purchase of 40 acres of rolling hills in Creston. From the beginning their goal was to produce wines that combine the robust styling of the best California wines with the restrained elegance of the classic wines from northern and central Italy. Their passion for the project comes from a love of cooking, eating and sharing meals with friends which leads directly to August Ridge wine style. This dream is a natural extension of both the Backer and Zamborelli families. John’s family has been growing grapes for four generations dating back to the 1800’s while Jill’s family brings the robust Italian food and traditions from a small town just outside of Rome, Italy.

The history behind Donatoni Winery is apparent to any visitor to this Westside Paso Robles winery. Memorabilia and photographs from the owners’ history in the airline industry cover the walls and adorn the tasting bar. And, owners Hank Donatoni and Sandi Baird are happy to elaborate on the story that the tasting room theme tells. Though they are retired now, Hank and Sandi’s connection to the airline business is still strong. Many of their friends were once co-workers, and even members of the aviation community they have never met find their way to Donatoni through their shared histories. Nestled in the heart of Edna Valley, overlooking rows of vineyards and a 40-mile stretch of the Santa Lucia mountain range is Autry Cellars. Owner and artisan winemaker Steve Autry and his tasting room staff pour wine varietals, brandy, and grappa borne from some of the best grapes selected from across the region, along with his signature apple brandy.

Autry Cellars’ informal, unpretentious tasting room is, “decorated in early American warehouse” style, jokes Autry. However, don’t be deceived by the modest décor. In this tasting room visitors can experience superb wine varietals ranging from best selling Petite Sirah to Malbec and Viognier. In addition, you can taste gold medal best-in-class grappa and silver medal winning American oak and Hungarian oak brandies, awarded by the California Mid-State Fair.

With over 18 years of winemaking experience, Autry became a commercial winemaker 10 years ago and a fully licensed brandy distiller in 2012. A visit to Autry Cellars is about discovery. He says people who visit his tasting room, “come for the wine and discover the brandy.” At Autry Cellars, visitors gain access to impressive wines and brandies that are available exclusively in the tasting room. At JUSTIN, we combine traditional Old World methods—like hand-harvesting and small-barrel aging in French oak—with New World technology. For example: the “Air Knife,” an ingenious process invented by our winemakers, boosts grape quality and efficiency.

Once the grapes are harvested, our winemakers—some of the best in the business—gather to sort, select, age, taste, blend and decide what goes into every bottle.

Established in 1991…Dunning Vineyards is family owned and operated. Located on the Westside of Paso Robles in the “Willow Creek” AVA District. We are well known for producing Premium Quality highly rated Estate wines featuring Estate Zinfandel. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Meritage, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Petite Sirah and Grenache.

Our Paso Robles wine grapes are grown to promote intense, varietal flavors that can then be sculpted in the cellar into a final artistic statement. The rich, concentrated wines of Sculpterra are the result of combining exceptional fruit from the winery’s estate vineyards and select Paso Robles vineyards with meticulous hand-crafted winemaking. Gentle handling, using traditional gravity methods ensures that the integrity of the wines stay intact. Sculpterra wines are aged an average of 12 to 18 months in American, French and Hungarian oak.

Seven Angels Cellars is a family owned, boutique winery located in Templeton, CA.  We began making wine in 2009 with a small production of Petite Sirah.  Since then we have increased production to around 3000 cases per year.  Greg Martin is the owner/winemaker and Pamela Martin is the other owner and handles social media, food pairings, wine club and club events and the website.  The story behind the name came from our passion for family.  We have seven children in our blended family, our 7 angels.

We both grew up loving wine.  Greg grew up in a rural area of California with neighbors who grew wine grapes.  He spent a lot of time learning about the entire process from the vine to the bottle from his patient neighbor.  He continued his interest in wine as a US Coast Guard when he was stationed in the bay area and had easy access to the multitude of wineries in Sonoma and Napa.  Pamela comes from a family of foodies and wine enthusiasts.  She took courses in college in winemaking and learned the biology aspect of wine.  She worked in catering and on TV as a home economist for a cooking show.  Pairing food and wine to create an interesting and delightful balance in a meal has become an obsession for her.

We married in 2008 and started making wine the following year.  We specialize in Rhone blends as well as single varietals.  Greg has his eyes, hands in every aspect of the process from the field to the bottle.  Pamela has the palate and the nose and is instrumental in the blending.

We participate in many non-profit and charity events as our way of giving back.  We are involved with Precious Life Shelter in Los Alamitos, a shelter for homeless pregnant women and Goals for Life, and NFL program for troubled youth.  We are the official wine sponsor for the Congressional Cup held annually at the Long Beach Yacht Club.  We also sponsor the Wooden Boat Festival in Newport Beach each year.

Many of our wines have been recognized by Wine Enthusiast with ratings in the 90’s.  We’ve also received numerous gold medals at California and International wine competitions.  This year we were awarded a gold medal from the mid-state fair for our 2015 Pinot Noir and a gold medal from the Orange County Wine Competition for our 2015 Tempranillo.

We believe in the “less is best” approach to winemaking.  Less manipulation and more natural methods of making our wine.  Greg likes to play with using different kinds of oak in our barrel program.  Our wines are food friendly, approachable in both flavor and price point.  We’d love to share with you more about our methodology, including, why we keep our price point where it is and how we see Seven Angels integrated on an evolved, noteworthy, wine list.

What began as a self taught side project for the family’s converted apple barn in 1998, the Arroyo Robles Winery now boasts a renowned tasting room and annual case production of over 3500 cases. Located in Paso Robles, CA the vineyard produces 24 acres of wine grapes including Syrah, Mouredre, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvigon, Grenache Nior, Tannat, Petite Sirah, and Cabernet Franc. Opened seven days a week from 11am to 7pm, the Arroyo Robles Winery downtown Paso Robles tasting room offers an eclectic choice of local favorites and exotic wines.
