The San Luis Obispo region
includes the Edna Valley and
Arroyo Grande AVAs, two of
California’s leading AVAs. Edna
Valley was the first AVA granted in
San Luis Obispo County in 1982
and has been producing wine since
1968. The two AVAs first attracted
attention in the early 1980s when
the California branch of the Cham-
pagne house Deutz, acquired land
