Pismo Fish and Chips—where original
customers now bring their grandkids
No trip to the beach is com-
plete without a bowl of clam
chowder or a plate of fresh fish
and chips. Pismo Fish and Chips
has been providing delicious clam
chowder, hearty fresh meals, and
award-winning seafood since
the early 1960s. The restaurant
became a local tradition during
the more than 50 years that the
founding Zechner family owned it.

The place to go when you’re in the mood for lobster and steak.
When Karishma and Arpan Smith
purchased it in 2014, they com-
mitted to honoring the restaurant’s
rich heritage and its importance to
generations of customers.
“Every day we hear stories from
our customers about how they have
been coming here since the 60s or
70s, and now they bring in their
grandkids. It has become a family tra-
dition to come here every time they
are in Pismo, and they have so many
memories built in this place over the
years,” said Karishma.
Little has changed inside the res-
taurant since 1963. The large mural of
Holland is still on the wall, and diners
sit in cozy booths. Many of the em-
ployees have been there for decades,
and the meals that people lined up
for in the 1960s are still on the menu,
made from the same recipes.
