Halter Ranch Vineyard and Winery of Paso Robles was named as one of the Hot Brands in the wine industry by trade publication Wine Business Monthly. Each January, Wine Business Monthly names ten brands to their annual list, coinciding with the annual Unified Wine and Grape Symposium in Sacramento. According to Wine Business.com, the list is made up of brands that “are making a statement in our industry” and who “best exemplify their region.”
Halter Ranch, part of the newly established Adelaida District AVA in the hills of west Paso Robles, has been under a transformation since it opened to the public in 2005. Owner Hansjoerg Wyss hired general manager Skylar Stuck and winemaker Kevin Sass in 2011, beginning a new regime at Halter Ranch. With increased emphasis on the expanding vineyard, construction of the state-of-the-art gravity flow winery and completion of 20,000 square feet of caves, the goal has been to focus on crafting premium estate–grown wines. A new tasting room is currently under construction as the part of the next phase of the ongoing evolution of Halter Ranch.
Stuck was enthusiastic about the accolade, “We are pleased to be recognized by Wine Business Monthly as a Hot Brand, as peer recognition is integral to brand development. This is an exciting time at Halter Ranch as we open up new wholesale markets, strengthen awareness and welcome wine enthusiasts to the winery. We are proud to represent Paso Robles as a Hot Brand of 2014.”
Halter Ranch’s wine portfolio focuses primarily on Rhône and Bordeaux varieties. The 281-acre vineyard is planted to 15 varieties and showcases a series of microclimates that allow the terroir to dictate what is best suited for the unique, sustainably farmed location.
The top 10 Hot Brands will be awarded with a reception and tasting on Tuesday, January 27 at Wine Business Monthly’s annual Bottle Bash in Sacramento. Past Paso Robles brands named to the annual Hot Brands list include Lone Madrone (2011), L’Aventure (2009) and Liberty School (2006).
