—April celebrates the planet, May has all-you-can-eat tamales, and there’s even more to do in the following months.

Party for the Planet at Central Coast Zoo

Celebrate Earth Day on April 18 at the local zoo with global reach. Bring the kids, and Party for the  Planet is included in the price of general admission. This annual Earth Day celebration is a fun way for children of all ages to experience interactive adventures, hands-on activities, exhibits by sustainability-conscious businesses, plus a variety of educational demonstrations.

Thrifters’ paradise at the Annual Citywide Yard Sale

Don’t miss this if you are a bargain hunter, thrifter, and collector! More than 120 locations have signed on to display their family heirlooms and fascinating things that you need! April 18 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m, and April 19 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Central Coast Cider Festival

Tickets are now on sale for this annual event! Order your tickets and mark your calendar for April 25, noon-4 p.m. at Atascadero’s Sunken Gardens. Relax and enjoy some cider education and tasting at the 8th Annual Central Coast Cider Festival. It’s a great opportunity to meet the cider makers.

Atascadero tamale festival

Ten years of tamales, Margaritas, dancing, and more! How fun is that?

Atascadero’s famous Tamale Festival is a free celebration entering its tenth year. The event kicks off with a sneak peek at the tamale vendors and live music on Friday, May 1, from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, May 2, launches the festival with over 30 tamale vendors tempting your taste buds from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Reminder! Tamales freeze very well, so plan on stocking your freezer!

Enjoy over 100 vendors from tamales to a wide variety of other kinds of food, Margaritas, beer, cider, wine, artisan merchandise, and live music, too! Proceeds from the Tamale Festival adult beverage sales benefit Friends of the Central Coast Zoo.

One of the best parts is that entry to the Tamale Festival is free!

Don’t forget about June!

June 6 features the Ice Cream Zoofari at the Central Coast Zoo from 5-8 p.m. Enjoy lots of ice cream while learning how the animals stay cool. For tickets and more information, visit centralcoastzoo.org.

The 10th Annual Cornhole Showdown Tournament is June 6 at the Sunken Gardens. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Register at visitatascadero.com/cornhole.

The 29th Annual Atascadero Lakeside Wine Festival is on June 13, from 4-8 p.m., and includes admission to the Central Coast Zoo. This festival showcases premier wines from the Central Coast. Boasting over 100 wines and distilled spirits from more than 50 wineries, breweries, and cideries, the event includes food purveyors serving delicious local food, live music, and incredible art exhibitors.

Don’t miss the 2022 Atascadero Lakeside Wine Festival.

Guests enjoy unlimited tastings and an exclusive “roar and pour” that puts you up close and personal with animals at the Central Coast Zoo.

Bring a blanket and a low-back chair to enjoy the live music and other activities that fill the park. A portion of the proceeds benefits the Central Coast Zoo.

More upcoming events

June 13 and August 29 are movie nights, featuring fun, games, and movies under the stars. Beginning at 7 p.m., participate in fun activities including soccer, chalk art, and hula hooping contests. The movie starts shortly after sunset,  and food is available for purchase. Movie nights are held at Colony Park Softball Field #2 at 5599 Traffic Way in Atascadero.

June 20 kicks off the free Saturday in the Park Summer Concert Series. Concerts run through August 15, except for July 4 and 18. Concerts are at the Atascadero Lake Park from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Bring a blanket, low-backed chair, and the entire family to enjoy the park and the music. The park is located at 9305 Pismo Avenue.
