Atascadero trails offer miles of views and adventure—One of the better-kept local secrets is a trail system spread throughout the city of Atascadero that offers pleasantly surprising outdoor adventures. The trails range from easy strolls around the Atascadero Lake to a challenging four-hour trek that climbs to 1700 feet.
Hike the scenic Pismo Preserve—The 880-acre Pismo Preserve has over 11 miles of high-quality single-track trails winding through serene oak woodlands, canyons and coastal ridgelines with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. Open for hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians.
Outdoor adventures around Morro Bay—This coastal town is home to an abundance of wildlife, stunning landscapes, challenging peaks, and important natural preserves. The National Audubon Society lists the town as a Globally Important Bird Area. Over 200 species of birds have been sighted here. Wildlife that flourishes in this protected region includes sea otters, sea lions, harbor seals, and a variety of other animals.
