–The Pismo Coast Village RV Resort, situated just steps from the beach, has been attracting tourists since the mid-1970s. When asked what sets the resort apart from others, CEO and General Manager Jay Jamison points to a few key items, naming his professional and friendly staff as the key to guests returning time after time. “There are a couple of things,” he says, “with number one being location; proximity to the beach, walking distance to nice restaurants, shopping and so forth. But it is our loyal staff members, many are long-time employees, that create an accommodating atmosphere and ensure our guests feel welcome and at home. Our brochure says, ‘make this place your home base on the Central Coast’ and that’s what our staff makes happen. RVers are very social and there is a camaraderie that goes along with that. Folks come back year after year; they look forward to seeing our staff and the staff look forward to seeing the guests return.”
Guests at the resort share daily about their experiences wine tasting or visiting Hearst Castle, the neighboring town of Morro Bay, and the Chumash Casino. There a lot of great places nearby to visit for the day before returning for a relaxing night at the resort. The resort’s busiest time of year, July, consistently has sites fully booked. Summer and holiday seasons bring in families; couples tend to stay during the off-season.
Pismo Coast Village RV Resort sponsors many events throughout the year including The Pismo Beach Classic Car Show and The Clam Festival, and hosts the annual Pismo Vintage Trailer Rally, taking place the third weekend in May. “We are becoming well-known for the Vintage Trailer Rally,” says Jamison. “It brings people from across the nation, many of the trailers are towed with classic cars, and we open the park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for public viewing.” Giving back to the community is important to the staff as well – they hold an annual Christmas party for mentally and/or physically challenged children from local elementary schools and donate free camp nights to various benefits both locally and in the Central Valley. Recently, they made a sizable donation to the Pismo Preserve, part of the Land Conservancy project.
