Iconic eatery serves up Award-Winning Clam Chowder
—The famous Splash Café is one of the longest-standing restaurants on the Central Coast, first opening its doors in 1989, just steps from the Pismo Beach Pier. Since 1991, Splash has been run by Joanne and Ross Currie, who turned it into a certified local landmark.
As one of the busiest restaurants on the Central Coast, Splash serves over 40,000 gallons of Clam Chowder every year, more than other seafood restaurants serve in their lifetime! No trip to Pismo Beach is complete without a stop at Splash Café for a taste of their legendary Clam Chowder, a consistent winner at the annual Pismo Beach Clam Festival.
Until November 2023, Splash was serving breakfast and lunch at a second location in San Luis Obispo. After 18 years, the Curries closed that location to focus on the bakery and growing nationwide sales of their clam chowder, a trio of spice rubs, and Carrot Pepper Hot Sauce. and cakes. Closing the San Luis Obispo location made it possible to acquire a commercial kitchen to house the artisan bakery, expand the bakery and catering operation, and fill more online orders.

More than just clam chowder
Joanne’s passion for flavors and experimenting in the kitchen has grown beyond the café, leading her to create a retail product line utilizing all the incredible flavors of the Central Coast. Her Carrot Pepper Hot Sauce, Raucous Daucus, was the first product and was created specifically for the creamy clam chowder. Then followed a trio of spice rubs intended for year-round grilling: Smoky Espresso, Smoky Citrus, and Smoky Chimi.
Splash fans will be thrilled to hear that the SLO location’s beloved breakfast has been brought to Pismo Beach. Fuel up for the day on must-haves, including breakfast burritos, morning munchie bowls, egg sandwiches on freshly made croissant or sourdough and cheesy egg bites served with crispy tots!
What breakfast would be complete without something sweet? Splash Café in Pismo Beach is now selling croissants, cinnamon rolls, muffins, and more, Fridays through Sundays. Stop by to grab a pastry and some coffee before taking a stroll along the sand. And soon, if you’re headed to work or a special event, you’ll be able to order assorted pastry boxes for local pick-up.
