Red Scooter PatioThe deli is a favorite for locals and visitors

–Hungry diners fill the cozy dining room at the Red Scooter Deli and flow over into the patio seating facing the Paso Robles City Park. Open early for breakfast and 363 days a year, the deli is a favorite for locals and a meal destination for people traveling between Southern California and the Bay Area. “We are the half-way point,” said owner Stephanie Johnston. “It’s always nice to see our repeat customers. We have quite a few who arrange their trips so they can stop here for something to eat.”

The deli’s breakfast and lunch menus are built on fresh ingredients from local vendors. The menu includes pastries and breads from local bakeries plus several that are baked in house, too. Breakfast choices include bagels, croissants, multigrain oatmeal and a selection of hearty egg scrambles, such as the Eggs Benedict Scramble or the Ham and Chili Scramble. Hot and cold sandwiches and wraps piled high with any choice of fillings, three different daily homemade soups and salads fill out the menu. Gluten free choices are also available as are vegetarian and vegan options. Fruit smoothies and a full espresso bar are available all day. The Red Scooter Deli delivers orders that are placed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.Red Scooter Front

It’s a great place for breakfast and lunch, but don’t forget the afternoon snack. A fruit smoothie fits the bill for that mid-afternoon pick-me-up. Everyone must have a coffee with a walnut loaded sticky bun at least once a week or maybe something a little lighter, like the lemon bar.

Catering is another service provided by the deli. The catering menu features a large variety of sandwich, cheese, and vegetable platters, salad bowls, box lunches and desserts, all created from the same fresh ingredients as the regular menu.

Johnston has been operating the Red Scooter Deli since 2010 upon purchasing it from the former owners. Johnston works along side the staff, taking orders, preparing the food, serving food, checking on customers and busing tables. “I’m very hands on,” stated Johnston. “This is a family run business and I enjoy mentoring the staff and helping them learn and develop job skills.” Johnston’s efforts are very apparent in the cheerful and helpful attitudes of the deli staff.

The Red Scooter Deli is located at 1102 Pine Street in Paso Robles. The deli is open every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekends. Evening hours are extended to 6:30 p.m. during the summer Paso Robles Concerts in the Park. For more information: www.redscooterdeli.com or (805) 237-1780.
