Visitors are welcomed to the entrance of the Vina Robles Hospitality Center.

Winery offers estate wines, event center, and world-class concerts

“We are all things hospitality,” said Director of Customer Relations and Marketing Simone Michel. Her father, Managing Partner Hans – R. Michel, is often spotted serving wine at the amphitheater’s bar counter during summer concerts.

A winery is born

`Founder and proprietor Hans Nef established Vina Robles in 1996. An entrepreneur from Zurich and avid collector of Bordeaux, Nef branched into importing wines from California and elsewhere into Switzerland. His dream of crafting distinctive, hand-crafted wines was realized when he discovered Paso Robles.

Nef planted four estate vineyards — Huerhuero, Jardine, Creston Valley and Pleasant Valley — and selected Michel to oversee the development of the vineyards and winery operations; the Adelaida Springs Ranch and Collins vineyards were later added.

The first vineyard that was purchased was the 280-acre Jardine Vineyard. Overall, Vina Robles owns a total of 1,200 vineyard acres in Paso Robles today.

Winemaker Kevin Willenborg currently crafts an annual production of 40,000 cases. He brings nearly 30 years of collective experience, gained from working in such prestigious regions as Bordeaux, Napa, Sonoma and British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley.

Wines, cheeses, art classes, and top-notch entertainment

Vina Robles’s portfolio includes a collection of 20 wines ranging from Bordeaux and Rhone varietals. The top of the line Cuvee Collection –a family of limited-edition proprietary blends– is barrel-aged for a minimum of 18 months.

To showcase its family of wines, Vina Robles offers a privately hosted “Wine & Cheese Experience.” The six-item cheese platter is presented with a selection of quince paste, dried cranberries and almonds.

The winery has recently begun hosting an art and wine bar, a unique combination of painting class and wine party. Guests can enjoy step-by-step instruction from local artists, while imbibing some, “liquid creativity,” courtesy of the winery.

The Vina Robles Amphitheatre features well-known acts. The 3,300-seat amphitheater will host big names this fall, such as George Thorogood, Ringo Starr and UB40. Visit for a complete lineup. The layout ranges from tiered seating and fixed seats to the casual lawn area to the exclusive VIP boxes with a private entrance and lounge.

Vina Robles, located at 3700 Mill Road in Paso Robles, is open daily, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 1 to Oct. 31, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 1 to April 30; closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. For more information, visit or call (805) 227-4812.
