New culinary tradition takes root in Avila Beach with “Brunch on Wheels”

—Avila Beach Golf Resort hosts “Brunch on Wheels,” a once-a-month food, entertainment and music event that is proving to be a hit with locals and visitors alike.

Scheduled for the third weekend of each month at Avila Beach Golf Resort, “Brunch on Wheels” regularly offers family-friendly days filled with beach views, lawn games, free live music and a sumptuous range of food-truck fare that is not commonly found at other venues.

“I’ve heard people say that ‘Brunch on Wheels’ is their favorite community event,” said Katie Sturtevant, general manager at Avila Beach Golf Resort. “They tell us that it’s a staple outing for their family, and it’s their preferred brunch in the county.”

The popularity of Brunch on Wheels is driven by menu items that are not typically found at other food-truck events, according to Becca Bowdey, the event director for Avila Beach Golf Resort.

Some of these culinary treats include Hoagie’s “Breakfast Totchos”; The Pairing Knife’s pancake station; “Veggie Naan Wraps” from Javed Kabab; the Hurricane Kitchen’s egg benedicts and wild salmon breakfast bagel sandwiches; and wood-fired breakfast pizzas from Fire and Wine.

“People also love our customized mimosa bar; the made-from-scratch Bloody Marys; pressed juices and other beverages,” Bowdey said. She added that non-food vendors such as Bessy the Foto Bus; handmade jewelry, clothing and face painting are also staples.

Avila Beach Golf Resort is now announcing its “Brunch on Wheels” schedule for the remainder of 2018, starting with a tasty Easter Sunday experience on April 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring local food trucks; a free Easter egg hunt at noon; live music by B and The Hive; free yoga classes led by Niccola Nelson; Bloody Mary and mimosa bars; lawn games; and a chance to meet the Easter Bunny. Pre-purchased reserved tables are also available.

First launched in 2017, “Brunch on Wheels” began as a way to give back to the community and to utilize the resort’s event space. Other upcoming dates in 2018 are May 13: June 17; July 15; August 5 (TBD); September 16; October 21; November 18; and December 16.

Vendors that regularly appear at “Brunch on Wheels” include: A Dream Party (face painting); Beda’s; Bessy the Foto Bus; Cloud Bench (local handmade jewelry); Fire and Wine; G Brothers Smokehouse; The Grilled Cheese Incident; Hoagies; The Hurricane Kitchen; Javed Kabab; Julia’s Juice Bar; Lidos Concessions; LuLaRoe; Pairing Knife; Shaka Shak; Shave ‘N Flave Catering; Sugar Lips; and TradeSpirit.
