Fun run to take place on June 3 for 25th Anniversary of Talley Vineyards

—This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the Marianne Talley Memorial Fun Run, which will take place at Talley Vineyards on Sunday, June 3. This year’s event will include the appearance of Arroyo Grande’s very own Jordan Hasay who will be on hand to help start the races, sign autographs and inspire participants of all ages. Events include 5k and 10k runs, a 1-mile walk, and a 1-mile youth run for ages 13 and under.

The Fun Run serves as the primary fundraiser for the Marianne Talley Memorial Scholarship Foundation. This non-profit organization was created in 1993 to fund scholarships for college-bound students graduating from Arroyo Grande High School. The foundation grants three separate scholarships: the Marianne Talley, Oliver Talley and Don Talley Memorial Scholarships which have combined to award more than $300,000 to 55 worthy young men and women.

Marianne’s brother, Brian Talley, shared his thoughts: “The Fun Run is always one my favorite days of the year. It’s such a fitting tribute to my sister who was both a true competitor as well as someone who loved to help people achieve their fitness goals. It’s our biggest event of the year and I’m proud that we’re able to memorialize Marianne in such a meaningful way.”

Marianne was an avid athlete who competed in swimming, running, cycling, and triathlon events most of her life. She was a member of the SLO Roadrunners Running and Triathlon Club and completed the Ironman Triathlon in 1992. She died suddenly on May 18, 1993, from complications associated with heart arrhythmia. The Fun Run was established as an annual fund-raising event in 1994. The run is dedicated to honoring Marianne’s memory and to her commitment to health, fitness and exercise.
