Expansion will facilitate more specialty food sales

— In an effort to enhance the public’s shopping experience, the Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market announced an expansion onto Chorro Street this summer. This expansion of the market was made possible through collaboration with the SLO County Farmers’ Market Association to provide a greater variety of foods and support a wide array of local growers and producers. The Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market is every Thursday evening on Higuera Street between Osos and Nipomo streets from 6-9 p.m. This expansion will begin on Thursday, July 6, 2017, and live entertainment will continue as scheduled on this street.

The Chorro Street expansion will feature a highly curated and specialized group of local farmers including Gracious Greens, Valencia Farms, Vintage Cheese Company, and Negranti’s Ice Cream. Gracious Greens is a small, family-run urban farm that specializes in a wide variety of microgreens including sweet pea shoots, sunflowers, broccoli, kale, and much more. Valencia Farm is family owned and operated and specializes in unique varieties of grapes and raisins including those that taste like apple, strawberry, and mango. Vintage Cheese Company has 30 different flavors of cheese including Jalapeno White Cheddar, Sheep’s Milk Gouda aged 12-18 months, and Pond Hopper goat cheese uniquely seasoned with cascade hops. Negranti Ice Cream is a small, family-owned and operated creamery right here on the Central Coast crafting all natural sheep’s milk ice cream made from locally sourced and sustainable ingredients. Bliss Café will also be serving up their vegan and vegetarian dishes to Market-goers. Their amazing spread includes a vegetable curry with tomato chutney and vegan pastries that are packed with wholesome goodness.

The Chorro Street expansion is listed on the Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market Facebook page. The public is encouraged to attend and RSVP via Facebook events. Market patrons can use the hashtag #GrowDowntownSLO to tag photos of the market on social media.
