SLO Progressives hosting ‘San Luis Pop Festival: Summer of Love’

San Luis Obispo singer/songwriter Kristen Black will be performing at the event.

–The SLO Progressives club will be hosting the San Luis Pop Festival: The Summer of Love, on Aug. 6, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mitchell Park in San Luis Obispo. Celebrating the spirit of the 60s, the club will be bringing San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park to SLO’s Mitchell Park to mark the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love. There will be compelling speakers, great live music, and food and drink (see details below).

Jody Mulgrew

Two-time New Times Awards “Best Album” winner Mulgrew weaves finely tuned guitar and ensemble arrangements around his unmistakable tenor voice.

B and the Hive

Led by the soulful vocals of Brianna Lee, their engaging live performances have led the group to play top venues in California and open for Elvis Costello, the Goo Goo Dolls and Lucinda Williams.

Kristen Black 

SLO singer/songwriter performed at the United We Rise Concert at the Fremont following the SLO Women’s March. Her latest album, “Can’t Bring Me Down,” won a New Times Music Award.

This dynamic and inspiring group of Progressive voices includes Kimberly Ellis, Jonathan Tasini, and Karen Bernal.

Kimberly Ellis

Ellis has revolutionized politics in California through her work training women to run for office as the first African-American Executive Director in EMERGE America’s national network. She recently ran second in the disputed race for Chair of the California Democratic Party.

Jonathan Tasini

Tasini, author and 13-year President of the National Writer’s Union, focuses his writing and activism on work, labor, and the economy. He once challenged the New York Senate seat of Hillary Clinton for voting for the Iraq Resolution, which gave Bush authority to invade Iraq. He was also a national Bernie Sanders surrogate during the 2016 primaries and is a frequent CNN contributor.

Karen Bernal

Bernal is Chair of the Progressive Caucus of the California State Democratic Party, a member of the state executive board, and was the elected leader of CA’s Bernie Sanders delegation to the DNC. She is also an elected member of the Sacramento County Democratic Party.

Formed by former Bernie Sanders volunteers, SLO County Progressives is meant to organize progressives into action and provide support to those running for local office. Officially the “SLO County Progressives Democratic Club”, the group is chartered with the SLO County Democratic Party, giving us representation during party meetings and decisions. SLO Progressives is an inclusive organization and membership is open to any progressive, regardless of party registration.
