Finding the perfect spot to grab a beer and a bite just got easier in San Luis Obispo. Located just off Tank Farm Road and South Higuera St, 7Sisters Brewery has become a hot spot for beer lovers on the Central Coast. The brewery is what some may call a “hidden gem” and it lays waiting to be discovered, to quench the thirst of any traveler. The menu is inviting and family friendly, with a great array of gourmet, locally sourced options. Try a flight of beers, or a farmer’s board with locally procured cheeses and meats, house-made pickled veggies and grilled cheese. Enjoy a freshly poured pint, or mix and match to come up with a custom flight of beers and find a new favorite.

Inside 7Sisters Brewery, a brightly painted mural of the iconic Seven Sisters mountain range in different shades of green can be seen, which converts their large wall into an artsy celebration of the Central Coast’s beauty. The casual atmosphere is airy, and the high ceiling feels spacious and well ventilated. Repurposed and recycled furniture is made from locally sourced materials that have been lovingly transformed into the brewery’s interior. Various free events take place on the small, raised corner stage, which is utilized frequently for music, comedy, and demonstrations, providing an excellent gathering spot for artists and the community to showcase their talents. The industrial feel is balanced with warm, welcoming customer service, and their outdoor patio space is full of extra seating, heaters, a fireplace, and basket of blankets keep the cold away on cool nights.

Serving up sustainability, and just off the main strip, 7Sisters Brewery is passionate about catering to the communities needs, with a broad spectrum of customers in mind. Their brewing process uses much less water and energy than other methods, and they are constantly striving to improve quality, limiting chemicals, and seeking efficiency. They are crazy about composting 7Sisters Brewery uses local ingredients whenever we can, and the tasting room is assembled almost entirely from repurposed materials.

7Sisters Brewery is known for hosting just about nightly live music, comedy, public lectures, art exhibits, and more. Local brewer Steve Van Middlesworth has found his niche in San Luis Obispo’s growing brewery community. Middlesworth expressed, “I just love the whole area, and everything about it. It is so much fun to sit and chat with guests to the brewery. We don’t consider ourselves beer snobs, and we identify as a local neighborhood pub. We happily serve other locally produced beers, ciders, and wines as well. We have so many ambitions and not enough time to try all the recipes we want to share.”Co-founded by Stephen Van Middlesworth and Emily Taylor in 2017, the dream of owning and operating a brewery had been in the works for at least ten years.’

7Sisters Brewery recently expanded their guest taps to include local favorites from around the Central Coast, highlighting breweries from all over the 805. Their selection of refreshing and unique flavors are all inspired by the surrounding 7Sisters Mountains, and their love of the whole area keeps them creative. Morro Rock Kolsch, Hollister Peak Belgian, Black Hill Pepper Stout, Bishop’s Peak Blonde, and Cerro San Luis Spiced Imperial Stout are all unique tasting, smooth, and delicious. The taps also feature local cider and usually some non-alcoholic options, and all the beers they brew are vegan-friendly, as are all the wines.

The brewery looks forward to a productive future. Owner and brewer, Steve Van Middlesworth shared, “We would like to start distributing locally, by ramping up production. We are really happy with the taproom, and now can turn our focus outward, to restaurants and bars.” The San Luis Obispo Repertory Theater recently signed on to receive kegs from the brewery, and will be serving up 7Sisters Brewery for the 2018-19 season.

Nightly events, new and exciting beers, wines and ciders, keep 7Sisters Brewery flourishing and growing to suit what the community needs. All guests are welcome to visit the brewery, including furry friends and little kids. A welcoming atmosphere for all who enter is the goal of co-owners Taylor and Middlesworth. “It has become a place where people can get together, talk, share ideas and relax.” Expressed Middlesworth. Come and see what all the rave reviews are about.
