Robert Hall Winery offers tastings and tours

With award-winning wines, spectacular grounds and unbeatable hospitality, the family-owned Robert Hall Winery has become a favorite destination for visitors to the Paso Robles Wine Country.

Guests are sure to enjoy a traditional tasting in the expansive Robert Hall tasting room while hearing the inside story on wines, pairing and recipe ideas, and can take a behind the scenes, in-depth, interactive tour of the grounds and facilities.

“Private, guided tours of the cavern and winery facilities provide our guests with a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes,” explained Robert Hall Tasting Room Manager Melinda Bradford. “The tour is very interactive with plenty of time for questions and one-on-one conversations.”

Along the tour, guests will learn about wine production and storage, details about the construction of the cavern, the growing stages in the vineyard, the winemaking process, and the ideal temperatures for aging wine. A barrel tasting is provided as is a bit of education about cooperage, as guests view various sizes of oak barrels and tanks while learning why each is used for a particular style of wine.

A wine for every taste

Robert Hall Winery produces a number of single varietal wines – Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon – as well as signature blends, creating a portfolio described as the “Essence of Paso Robles.”

Marketing Director Lisa Pretty explained the philosophy of the winemaking and vineyard sourcing, saying, “Robert Hall Winery produces a family of wines that reflect the best of what Paso Robles has to offer. Each of the varietals on our list is sourced from vineyards ideally-suited to growing that particular grape. Our winemaker also does a fantastic job at crafting unique blends such as our Rhone de Robles and Meritage.”

With Cabernet Sauvignon serving as the Robert Hall flagship, winemaker Don Brady shares that, “Paso Robles has such diversity in terms of soil types, topography, and micro climates. By selecting Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from a number of diverse vineyards with specific personalities, coaxing the best out of each, then carefully merging them, we are able to deliver a well-crafted wine, vintage after vintage, which respectfully reflects Cabernet Sauvignon at its best in a Paso Robles wine.”

Commitment to sustainability

Making wines with integrity begins in the vineyards – 300 acres of estate vineyards, planted with 21 different varietals, are all are certified for sustainability. As she outlined the winery’s commitment to sustainability, Pretty said that “as stewards of the land, our goal at Robert Hall Winery is the practice of sustainable farming, resource management and energy and water conservation. Robert Hall is committed to sustainability and our Hall Ranch estate vineyards are certified through the Sustainability In Practice (SIP) ™ program.

Owner Robert Hall can often be seen greeting and mingling with guests in the tasting room and sharing a story or two when he’s not traveling throughout the country promoting his wines. He also continues to work in the vineyard and is a true, hands-on owner.
