3 Oaks Studio is a “design and consign” boutique located near the heart of downtown Paso Robles.

Even the most novice “Do it Yourselfer” can now create a masterpiece, thanks to 3 Oaks Studio located in Paso Robles. The warm and inviting “design and consign” boutique located near the heart of downtown Paso Robles, offers “Paint Therapy” events where customers can experience the joy of working on and completing a project piece such as a plaque or seasonal paint project.

In Paint Therapy, participants learn techniques such as gilding and decoupage. At the end of each session, each participant enjoys the reward of completing a project to take home. According to 3 Oaks Studio owner Vicki Shoemaker, Paint Therapy events offer an opportunity for participants to “learn the joy of creativity.”

Shoemaker says, “It’s so rewarding when I hear a customer say ‘I can do this!’ and they go on to create something they are proud of and want to show off. That’s what it’s all about.”

Shoemaker, who has over 25 years experience as a decorative painting specialist, opened the 3 Oaks Studio in Paso Robles just over a year ago with her husband, Steve. It is the third 3 Oaks Studio location for the couple, who also own studios in Clovis and Fresno, California.

At Paint Therapy events, the setting is informal and relaxing. Participants are invited to bring their own beverages to enjoy during the class. Additionally, 3 Oaks Studios provides refreshments because “the creative process can make people hungry!” Shoemaker jokes. She adds, “it’s a very social time and we want it to be fun for everyone.”

3 Oaks Studio also offers Annie Sloan Basics courses. In these courses, participants learn to use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint which has been available in Europe for 25 years, but was introduced in the United States only five years ago. Annie Sloan products are exclusively available at select, independently owned businesses. 3 Oaks Studio is the only retailer in San Luis Obispo that currently offers the products.

According to Shoemaker, Chalk Paint products have “revolutionized the DIY world.” Tackling projects using Chalk Paint is appealing because the products are designed to eliminate the need to sand, strip or prime the project piece. Shoemaker says that these types of DIY projects “provide an alternative way for people to revitalize their home in an economical way.”

“It’s fun! People have really embraced it,” she shared. By using the products sold at the studio, and applying techniques learned in the classes, “You can re-love what you already have.”

In addition to DIY classes, 3 Oaks Studio offers quality home décor and furnishings available for purchase. In the studio’s vendor marketplace, work of local designers is featured. Styles range from modern retro to rustic.

The studio also offers a wide array of consignment decor and furniture. Shoemaker shared that people bring in amazing, quality pieces to sell. Although a piece may no longer fit the original owner’s lifestyle, offering it on consignment results in a high quality, low cost purchase for a new owner. Some pieces are sold as fixer-upper “project pieces.” The Annie Sloan products available in the studio are the perfect solution to enhance pieces such as these. Shoemaker says, “if you find something you love and it’s not right we can fix that!”

For those interested in selling items on a consignment basis, they are invited to call or email 3 Oaks Studio with information about the piece. In order to ensure that the studio offers customers high quality merchandise, consignments are chosen selectively.

Steve and Vicki Shoemaker invite locals and out-of-town visitors alike to visit 3 Oaks Studio. Whether you are in the market for new or previously owned decor or furniture, you are seeking quality materials for your next DIY project, or you want to learn fun and simple DIY techniques, the studio offers
something for everyone.
