Templeton Chamber of Commerce History
The original Templeton Board of Trade was formed in 1913 to promote trade and commerce, for the promotion of work, and for advertising to encourage growth in the community.
In May of 1979, a town meeting was held to determine whether or not to revitalize the Board of Trade. It was overwhelmingly accepted and a new organization known as the Templeton Chamber of Commerce – Board of Trade was formed. This was in keeping with the original historical name, but also realizing the need to be a member of a nationally recognized organization such as the Chamber of Commerce.
The organization consists of local businesses, professionals and individual members who are committed to promoting economic vitality, improving quality of life and encouraging cooperation within our community.
Templeton History
Templeton was founded in 1886, when C.H. Phillips of the West Coast Land Company ,sent R.R. Harris to survey 160 acres south of Paso Robles. This acreage was to be laid out in business and residential lots and 5-12 acre parcels for a town named “Crocker” after the famous San Francisco financier. When it was discovered there was already a town by that name, this settlement became “Templeton,” named after Crocker’s son. This is the only town along the El Camino Real named for a person, rather than a saint.
Templeton was fathered by the railroad, built on the main highway between San Francisco and Los Angeles and, in its heyday, had a reputation for its saloon brawls and wild ‘n’ rough street scenes. The town was the end of the line for passengers coming from the north. Tourists disembarked here and took a stagecoach south to San Luis Obispo.
In 1891, the railroad continued south and the town was reduced to a flag stop and is now a bypass. In 1897, there was a great fire which burned most of the business district. The town was rebuilt, but not to its former glory.
In 1965, Josephine Gilfillan wrote for the Paso Robles Press a series of pieces on Templeton. Newcomers kept asking, “Why was Templeton was built so close to Paso Robles and Atascadero?” She said, “I wanted to tell them that Templeton came first.”
Today, Templeton is a small, quiet town, with a strong community spirit and a vision to preserve its colorful past.

The property has a local history dating back to the late 1890’s. The original Farmhouse has been lovingly updated and sits proudly on our estate. The Pelletiere Estate vineyard, rich in limestone soils was planted in 1993-1996, and is family owned & operated with a commitment to the traditions of fine winemaking and responsible stewardship of its vineyard land for future generations to savor and uphold.
Its south-facing sloped terrain, rocky limestone soils, cool coastal breezes, and diurnal fluctuation in temperature create, above all an estate ideal for wine growing. Here we produce exceptional Italian varietals that honor our Italian heritage and those of our predecessor. Today, 100 percent of Pelletiere Estate wines are sourced from its sustainably-farmed estate-grown Italian varieties which include; Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Montepulciano, Lagrein, Aglianico, and Primitivo, as well as, our Syrah and Viognier. We are dedicated to meticulous vineyard care, picking at optimum ripeness, and creating elegant Italian-style wines which express the balance and pure flavors of our vineyard terrior.

The history behind Donatoni Winery is apparent to any visitor to this Westside Paso Robles winery. Memorabilia and photographs from the owners’ history in the airline industry cover the walls and adorn the tasting bar. And, owners Hank Donatoni and Sandi Baird are happy to elaborate on the story that the tasting room theme tells. Though they are retired now, Hank and Sandi’s connection to the airline business is still strong. Many of their friends were once co-workers, and even members of the aviation community they have never met find their way to Donatoni through their shared histories. The Rotta tasting room and winery is located in the Templeton hills, and features a unique blend of history and modern winemaking technology. One thing that’s definitely staying is the old redwood sign with “Rotta Winery” neatly hand stenciled in white paint. “I painted that sign when I was ten years old,” remembered Giubbini.
Kiler Ridge Olive Farm is a 58-acre family farm in the coastal hills of central California, just minutes from downtown Paso Robles. Our central coast climate and chalky soil are ideal for olives. We use sustainable farming practices, and currently maintain 2500 olive trees — varieties originating from Italy and Sicily.
The farm’s first year of olive oil production was 2010, and that year, as well as each following year, our Kiler Ridge Extra Virgin Olive Oils have won medals in important olive oil competitions, including the Los Angeles International Olive Oil Competition, the Der Feinschmecker international competition in Germany, and the California Olive Oil Council competition.
During October, November and December, we are harvesting our olives and releasing limited quantities of our extremely fresh Olio Nuovo olives oils. In February through April, we release our new season’s clarified and Certified Extra Virgin Olive Oils. Sandra and Darryl Kilpatrick offer massage therapy in a variety of modalities. At Paso Robles Massage Therapy Therapy we are aimed to focus on client’s wellness through relieving muscle pain and tension while providing a clean, safe, positive and relaxing experience. Sandra and Darryl are mindful to client’s needs while remaining non-judgmental and compassionate. Sandra and Darryl strive to help clients achieve their health and wellness by providing exceptional service experience.
We often feel pain in a generalized area (shoulders, neck, low back etc.). Massage Therapy however, attempts to identify which muscle is overly tight, sore, has a Trigger Point or what the specific issue is. We can then relieve pain by applying appropriate massage techniques for the identified problem. When the pain is relieved, we follow up with periodic massage as maintenance to prevent the problem from reoccurring. We believe massage should be a part of everyone’s regular wellness plan.
We help clients heal from injury, release adhesions (knots), cope with stress, relax, and preserve functional capability, with soft tissue therapy.
Brief company history
Sandra and Darryl Kilpatrick completed the Massage Practitioner course at California Holistic Institute and received certification from the California Massage Therapy Council in 2013. They were drawn to help people in the therapeutic realm and opened their practice with Griffin Chiropractic. They continued their education and went on to graduate from the 500 hour Massage Therapist course in 2014. They honed their relaxation massage skills by working at Massage Envy. They now offer therapeutic massage for pain release of muscular injury as well as relaxation massage for regular wellness maintenance.

Seven Angels Cellars is a family owned, boutique winery located in Templeton, CA. We began making wine in 2009 with a small production of Petite Sirah. Since then we have increased production to around 3000 cases per year. Greg Martin is the owner/winemaker and Pamela Martin is the other owner and handles social media, food pairings, wine club and club events and the website. The story behind the name came from our passion for family. We have seven children in our blended family, our 7 angels.
We both grew up loving wine. Greg grew up in a rural area of California with neighbors who grew wine grapes. He spent a lot of time learning about the entire process from the vine to the bottle from his patient neighbor. He continued his interest in wine as a US Coast Guard when he was stationed in the bay area and had easy access to the multitude of wineries in Sonoma and Napa. Pamela comes from a family of foodies and wine enthusiasts. She took courses in college in winemaking and learned the biology aspect of wine. She worked in catering and on TV as a home economist for a cooking show. Pairing food and wine to create an interesting and delightful balance in a meal has become an obsession for her.
We married in 2008 and started making wine the following year. We specialize in Rhone blends as well as single varietals. Greg has his eyes, hands in every aspect of the process from the field to the bottle. Pamela has the palate and the nose and is instrumental in the blending.
We participate in many non-profit and charity events as our way of giving back. We are involved with Precious Life Shelter in Los Alamitos, a shelter for homeless pregnant women and Goals for Life, and NFL program for troubled youth. We are the official wine sponsor for the Congressional Cup held annually at the Long Beach Yacht Club. We also sponsor the Wooden Boat Festival in Newport Beach each year.
Many of our wines have been recognized by Wine Enthusiast with ratings in the 90’s. We’ve also received numerous gold medals at California and International wine competitions. This year we were awarded a gold medal from the mid-state fair for our 2015 Pinot Noir and a gold medal from the Orange County Wine Competition for our 2015 Tempranillo.
We believe in the “less is best” approach to winemaking. Less manipulation and more natural methods of making our wine. Greg likes to play with using different kinds of oak in our barrel program. Our wines are food friendly, approachable in both flavor and price point. We’d love to share with you more about our methodology, including, why we keep our price point where it is and how we see Seven Angels integrated on an evolved, noteworthy, wine list.
