About Cayucos

Cayucos is a picturesque village located along California State Route 1, between Cambria on the north and Morro Bay on the south. The Chumash people were the original inhabitants before European contact and many descendants still live, work and raise their families in the region. The word “Cayucos” gets its name from the Hispanicization of a Chumash word for the kayak or canoe, which was used by the Chumash to fish the bay. The village name came from the 1842 Mexican land grant, Rancho Moro y Cayucos.

The village has population of around 2600 and is a popular destination for Central Coast locals and visitors. The town is the location of the annual Cayucos Sea Glass Festival held in March. The  festival draws artisans, vendors, and guests from all over the region. The Cayucos State Beach, many shops and restaurants make the quiet town a pleasant get-away for a day or longer.

Things to do in Cayucos include hiking, exploring tide pools, shopping, dining and more.

About Cambria

Cambria is a seaside village located along California State Route 1 about midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. The small town, with a population of approximately 6000, is known worldwide for its antique shops, wide variety of other unique shops and boutiques and restaurants. Every October, Cambria, along with Harmony and San Simeon, draws thousands of visitors to view the whimsical scarecrows that are cycling, bowling, painting, fishing and just hanging around the streets.

Originally known as Slabtown, the name Cambria (the Latin name for Wales) was bestowed in 1869. The town is situated within one of only three Monterey Pine forests. The area was originally inhabited by the Chumash people until the arrival of the Spanish in 1769 marked the beginning of European occupation and settlers. The town of Cambria is located on the Rancho Santa Rosa Mexican land grant.

Settlers were drawn to the area because of the fertile land, streams, and lumber. In 1862 the discovery of cinnabar, the ore from which mercury is extracted brought a mining boom until the mercury prices started falling. A devastating fire in 1889 virtually ended the mercury business and Cambria settled into a quiet dairy community.

Things to do in Cambria include visiting the famous Moonstone Beach, hiking, visiting tidepools, sightseeing, shopping and dining.

About Morro Bay

The region was originally inhabited by the Chumash people before contact by the Spanish  Portola expedition on 1769. While governed by Mexico, large land grants established ranchos in the areas, creating a need for a shipping port. The town of Morro Bay was established in 1870 when Franklin Riley helped build a wharf where trade schooners delivered goods and picked up wool, produce and dairy products.

In the 1940s Morro Bay was a thriving abalone fishery that peaked in 1957 when the stocks of abalone declined due to overfishing. Today the town is the location of a commercial fishing industry, a variety of small businesses, and a popular recreational destination for locals and visitors.

Morro Bay is home to Morro Bay State Park, a bird sanctuary and national estuary, the Museum of Natural History, the Morro Bay Maritime Museum, and the famous Morro Rock. Things to do in Morro Bay include dining, exploring and bird watching, shopping and more.

Living the Dream

Pinot Noir is the driving passion of Marc Goldberg and Maggie D’Ambrosia, husband and wife owners of Windward Vineyard. Windward Vineyard is dedicated exclusively to producing Burgundian style Pinot Noir. To make the “Great American Pinot Noir,” one that rivals those produced in Burgundy, is the couple’s passion.

Marc and Maggie purchased and planted the vineyard in 1989 based upon the terroir and microclimate of the Paso Robles Westside. The combination of the cooling Pacific breezes, the calcareous soil and the 50 degree daily drop in temperature produce exemplary Pinot Noir.

With the Burgundian French term, “Monopole” vision of total control over both the vineyard and the winemaking, the 15-acre vineyard is planted to four notable French clones.

Windward Vineyard is dedicated to putting Paso Robles’ Pinot Noir back on the map, following in the footsteps of two significant figures in California wine history. In the late 1960’s, consultant Andre Tchelistcheff supervised the Paso Robles Hoffman Mountain Ranch property of Dr. Stanley Hoffman. In the 1970’s, Hoffman’s Pinot Noirs gained worldwide recognition, and were drinking well over 20 years later.

Since the 1993 debut in 1995, each of Windward’s SOLD OUT vintages have achieved inspiring acclaim, particularly within the community of wine aficionados who appreciate the layered complexity of Burgundian styled Pinot Noir. Marc explains. “We knew we could count on the vineyard to produce formidable fruit. It is living up to our expectations as it matures and continues to develop layered complexity.”

Mission Statement

The Templeton Chamber of Commerce promotes economic vitality, improves quality of life and encourages cooperation within our community.

Templeton Chamber of Commerce History

The original Templeton Board of Trade was formed in 1913 to promote trade and commerce, for the promotion of work, and for advertising to encourage growth in the community.
In May of 1979, a town meeting was held to determine whether or not to revitalize the Board of Trade. It was overwhelmingly accepted and a new organization known as the Templeton Chamber of Commerce – Board of Trade was formed. This was in keeping with the original historical name, but also realizing the need to be a member of a nationally recognized organization such as the Chamber of Commerce.

The organization consists of local businesses, professionals and individual members who are committed to promoting economic vitality, improving quality of life and encouraging cooperation within our community.

Templeton History

Templeton was founded in 1886, when C.H. Phillips of the West Coast Land Company ,sent R.R. Harris to survey 160 acres south of Paso Robles. This acreage was to be laid out in business and residential lots and 5-12 acre parcels for a town named “Crocker” after the famous San Francisco financier.  When it was discovered there was already a town by that name, this settlement became “Templeton,” named after Crocker’s son. This is the only town along the El Camino Real named for a person, rather than a saint.

Templeton was fathered by the railroad, built on the main highway between San Francisco and Los Angeles and, in its heyday, had a reputation for its saloon brawls and wild ‘n’ rough street scenes. The town was the end of the line for passengers coming from the north. Tourists disembarked here and took a stagecoach south to San Luis Obispo.
In 1891, the railroad continued south and the town was reduced to a flag stop and is now a bypass. In 1897, there was a great fire which burned most of the business district. The town was rebuilt, but not to its former glory.

In 1965, Josephine Gilfillan wrote for the Paso Robles Press a series of pieces on Templeton. Newcomers kept asking, “Why was Templeton was built so close to Paso Robles and Atascadero?” She said, “I wanted to tell them that Templeton came first.”

Today, Templeton is a small, quiet town, with a strong community spirit and a vision to preserve its colorful past.
